The interest in circumcision is disproportionately high compared to the actual harm done.

Children actually die all the time due to diseases related to traffic exhaust, yet there are hardly any threads about it. Yet circumcision, which causes (if we assume its fiercest critics are correct) maybe ten deaths per year throughout the developed world and yet there are many threads about it.

Why does this discrepancy exist?

Since dog attacks still happen, at least some people are supportive of those conditions that directly lead to dog attacks. Since dog attacks clearly harm children more than circumcision, why are there so few thirty page discussions on dog attacks or any other subject that harms children more than this odd rite?

Because traffic accidents can only be reduced by further urbanization and or raising the driving age above the age of majority. Neither of which are particularly popular amongst voters in countries where the population is already mostly urban or the corporations who rely on selling cars to customers.

It's quite believable, babies aren't meant to scream in agony, thrash around and shake violently and then enter a state of shock... Generally If you couldn't take the pain as an adult, there's no reason to believe a newborn could.
