They did assimilate. The fact that the vast majority of Americans of German descent speak entirely English and not a lick of German kinda proves they assimilated.

And culturally. What elements of German, especially French culture (outside of Louisiana) are prevalent in American culture today?
This could be tricky as English culture and German culture were already pretty similar to begin with.
