Why leave a community we (more or less) love?

To make moderation more efficient, or feedback from us more efficient? Because I agree on both. I'm not saying our current approach to either is the best it can be. Nothing is. But if we don't all participate in these discussions, we'll never get anywhere.

Am I the only person who's only heard of this "zeonic controversy" in references other posters have made to it?
What actually happened?

Because one of the mods refused to revise a locked thread they were supposed to, someone who had admitted to serious criminal offenses wasn't punished until much later when the topic was brought up again in the first version of this thread.

Actually, I'm quite sure that the person in question was punished BEFORE the first version of this thread. It just happened that NSG Culture #1 was made a bit afterwards and got all the attention regarding the case.

I visit another forum called GameFAQs. It's massive, and mod abuse is fairly rampant.

But the difference between that forum and this one is that the mod abuse there is completely perpetual. Everyone knows that everyone's days are numbered that that there isn't much they can do about it. Even the mods know this.
That isn't the case here. On GameFAQs basically everyone hates the mods and most of the mods hate the community. That isn't the case here. Shit isn't going to change here because even though we're such a close knit community (well...the regulars know the regulars) the moderation staff still isn't doing jack shit about our concerns.

I don't think that at all, however most of the gripe against moderation concerns their actions on general.

I'd like to add to this by saying that there seem to be at least three times the amount of "unwritten rules" than actually rules.

For example, I once got a one week ban and a DEAT for...posting an image larger than 900px.
I've done extensive search in the months since the event, and it is written exactly NOWHERE that you can't do that. Also, the fact that this had never happened before led me, and almost all I've spoken about it with, to believe that this "infraction" was more akin to police ticketing all red cars rather than all cars that are speeding.

Also, on my old nation I received a warning for quoting a post without any additional content. A formal, redtext, added-to-my-record warning.
However, it has since been ruled that that isn't actionable...unless two people do it. So yes, you can get warned now because someone else posted something after you. Also, the moderator that issued the warning to me stated that he didn't think it was actionable at all...again, ticketing any car that's red.

And I can't even TELL you how many times a moderator has marched into the MMW thread, ignored any and all context, and handed out redtext like it was too hot to touch. I've seen moderators simply quote random posts that don't even mean anything and use it as justification for some arbitrary act, a great example of this is when a mod locked a thread because I said it had been going on for many years. Like...seriously?

Context matters. Ever heard of FST? Do you know what got him DEATed? Yes, picspam. If I'd done it, I probably would've just got a spoiler edited in and maybe a warning because I think it was also trollish. The difference? FST had a very extensive record (this is prior to confirming he was already DOS as well) whereas mine is/was relatively spotless. So, it does depend on what you'd been doing recently, what had been happening in the thread and also what exactly it was.

There's no such thing as picspam in the MMW thread, in addition to the fact that an image has been posted on the first post of every page in recent memory, and there's no rule anywhere saying that you can get deated and banned for posting past cap.

Please know your bullshit before trying to convince others that things they've lived through are wrong. Because it's still bullshit.

I do not agree that the en bloc post was pic spam, in so far as it was topical, but I would appreciate if images were spoilered please.

That is a mod saying one particular contested post was not an example of picspam. It is not Transnapastain making a blanket judgement, it is an assessment of a specific incident.

Additionally, I think it was more or less your deliberate attempt to evade size-limits that got you the DEATion and ban.

What I mean is someone who hasn't dealt with a ban of some form or another. Or at the very least a warning or two.

Gives you a more detailed experience of just what the consequences of hitting people with them are.

While I sometimes complain, I don't take it full out and demand a change to the system. I just let it remain bottled in. Try it sometime, it could improve your reputation amongst the mods.

I hear they're partial to extra mud pit installations if you need some relations improvement.

I recommend staying away from the bigger ones the culture shock is quite something.
It's chaos out there.
Smaller forums seem to work out okay, though I suspect that's because there isn't much modding to do so people are more relaxed.
