Now that is grasping at straws.

I'd be very surprised if they truly envisioned and feared a Catholic Church coming about otherwise.

Just an example. How about a protestant version of it. The point is that its a religiously tolerant country.

Except when it comes to native americans of course, how could we tolerate all these "original" nations, speaking "original" lagnuages, living for hundreds of years on the land we "founded". Let's show the rest of the world how tolerant we are by rounding them up, putting them on reservations, take their kids away from them, cut their hair, force them not to speak their native tongue & teach them english & the bible. Damm proud we are such a tolerant nation.

I'll delcare War on Christmas.

The end of the year is important, because it's a time when the majority of business' are closed, the majority of people are off work and it's the only day of the year where we feel obliged to get along with our families. This is a good thing i believe however the religious context it is placed in is not fair for the non-christians. Santa, Jesus, Consumerism and all that which are forced down our throats during this period is unfair to the rest of us who seize this day as an opperunity where you can get ones family together in the same room without excuses or other using other mitigating factors.

I'm surprise they aren't already bitching about The GAP new ad, which basically mentions all the winter holiday (including Solstice), but the Holiday Season has just begun, so we will see.

Of course I'll be the heathen that'll be wishing everyone a Happy Holiday!

Surely the founding of the US as a country without an established Christian church makes it a country founded on secular rather than Christian principles.

No, not really. They weren't trying to make a theocracy. At that time Christianity was a huge part of life. Almost all the founders were Christians, if not all of them. They didn't want to force their beliefs on everyone, which is obviously a good thing. If you want a little hint, just look at the whole taking an oath system. An oath, at that time at least, was a promise to God.

lolwut? many of the more prominent were deists. ben franklin, tommy jefferson, george washington, etc.

as to whether we were found on religious principles or not, i will redirect you to looking at the treaty of tripoli.

America was founded as a Deist Country. I'm sorry about that factual announcement, now let's go back to the War on Christmas:

In the Right Corner we have the Fundamentalists: they're wild, they'll be sending you to hell soon, and they're here to stay thanks to Faux News!

In the Left Corner we have the Militant Atheists: they're crazy, they claim to be logical, and they will be telling you that you are retarded very soon and that they are geniuses!

And so the rumble begins. Honey, get the popcorn :P

Profiling:
A Fundamentalist firmly believes that his word is correct, and everyone else is wrong. He hates Middle Eastern Dictatorships, and doesn't see the irony. The average Fundie grew up in a sheltered home, and/or had a life changing experience, that can happen to everyone but is unique to him. He firmly believes that anyone who doesn't strictly adhere to his views is unkosher. Ironically he hates the word Kosher and he hates gays, b/c God hates guys, despite the Bible being rather silent on the subject.

A Militant Atheist was tortured in a Fundamentalist family as kid. His parents told him about God, and he didn't want to hear anything. Today he takes his message across the interwebs. Ironically the Militant Atheist fails to see that he is acting exactly as his parents, except his God is his hubris. Naturally the Militant Atheist believes that people who don't understand him are retarded, and he shares the Fundies' hatred for Middle Eastern regime. He may even pretend to be gay.

A typical conversation:

"You are an illogical idiot!"
"You are going to HELL!"

Where are you guys? None of you are in this thread. I clicked and failed to find you. Please, show up, My popcorn is ready!

They've actually been declining in this part of the world, the Choctaw Casinos dont have to give back to the community the way the traditional casinos do...so we've consistently voted them down...

No, George Washington I know was a Christian. Take a look at his Thanksgiving adress. He says "Almighty God" a few times in there along with other Christian refrences. No matter what college proffesor who never read any documents from the time period tells you, they were Christian. You don't have to believe in Christianity to know that.

I don't mean any government forces the word to be censored, but just the whole cultural idea of 'oh you can't say merry Christmas, it's offensive', when literally around 0.00001% of the population actually finds someone saying merry Christmas to them offensive (and why I should care that these people find it offensive baffles me further).
