Christmas has its roots in the Winter Solstice and Celtic Samhain.
It was designed to help ease converts into the Christian religion by having the same holidays. No one knows when Jesus was born, and even if we did, people during Jesus's time didn't celebrate birthdays, they were a Pagan thing.
