The part of Christmas shopping I'm dreading is hearing "Jingle Bell Rock" again. That song makes me want to flay whoever wrote it alive.

Word. Just after Thanksgiving a local radio station started playing 24/7 Christmas music, and every time I turn it on it seems to be some rendition of 'Jingle Bell Rock', 'Let it Snow' or 'Jingle Bells'. Enough to drive one up the wall sometimes. I love when they play the real Christmas songs though

Seriously. I'm not even a Christian, but I like those carols so much better than all the modern pop songs. Let it Snow annoys the crap out of me. Especially since I hail from an area where winter consists mainly of cold rain.

Well, see that's the thing. The first one talks about the silliness of consumerism (Madonna CD's, lol), and feels a bit more light-hearted. I mean, it's still bitching, but in a far more benign way. The latter is very targeted, and trying to make a very stiff point. It's like an overreaction to a joke to me.

I think perhaps you're mistaking something you agree with for something that is 'funny' . Maybe not though, to each their own for sure. You have a Merry Christmas too!

Yes, and I like to throw in "And the horse you rode in on," too. "Happy Holidays," "Seasons' Greetings," whatever. I'm an atheist but I will say "Merry Christmas" to people I know are Christians (though most are non-practicing ones) because for them, the season is Christmas. I would wish a Jew a happy Hannukah. I would use the appropriate greeting to any believer. It costs me nothing.

But why is it a big deal? Strangers you run into on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day might not know you're a Christian. You might be Jewish or Muslim or some other religion, you might be an atheist, why should they run the (admittedly small) risk of offending you by assuming you're someone who celebrates Christmas? Anyone who knows you will not have that problem.
