No, we'll see what we see every year -- a lot of whining and griping.

And we'll see most people simply enjoy the holiday.

I'm more concerned with the yearly outrage that greets me when I say things like "Merry Yuletide".

Oh, we'll see the War on Christmas. But it isn't the war we think it is...

The war on Christmas is the battle between the commercial monster, hungry and slavering after being starved last year, and the people still trying to redeem some form of meaningful remembrance and celebration from the event.

I've seen it on TV already; fake snow in LA, circus-esque performances in the middle of malls, a 'sexy Santa' who has no beard, and goes shirtless under his robe top, showing off his muscles and whatnot. The drive to make a profit on the holiday is greater than ever, as the retail beast opens its six maws and sings the song that will consume the holiday. Our only chance is to battle against it and its minions to reclaim some form of relevance for the time of year.

But seriously though, I hate that GAP commercial.

I shall be celebrating with my family, and my girlfriend who'll be with me at Christmas/Yule/Winter Solstice/whatever is celebrated after the 20th of December for the first time since we started dating *happiness*

Personally I say Merry Christmas to people - even though I reject Christianity - because that's what I've said since I was small; but is someone wants to give me some sort of seasons greeting - be it religious or not, then I'll accept it and smile.

As for a war on Christams...can we shoot the elves and keep the presents? I'm getting some good ones this year...
"Grasping the relation of the infinite and self is an act of faith. Essentially, in virtue of absurdity, we can have both the infinite and the self in perspective and be a knight of faith. Freedom is being a ‘self’ as one wills to be… ‘Duty is the expression of God’s will’…but can’t… Can’t God be, subjectively, something or someone else? Acting for them, in duty to them, could still let us have faith. Being a knight of faith for them would mean determining your relation to the universal to your relation to the absolute"

Wilgrove wrote:Will we see a War on Christmas this year? We actually didn't see one last year, at least I didn't. I guess the economic turmoil got people more concern with their jobs, house, and money than whenever or not someone is saying Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas. However, with the Republican Party going further right (and into obscurity), will they raise a stink about this?

I'm surprise they aren't already bitching about The GAP new ad, which basically mentions all the winter holiday (including Solstice), but the Holiday Season has just begun, so we will see.

Of course I'll be the heathen that'll be wishing everyone a Happy Holiday!

That's pretty much what the so-called War on Christmas is. A bunch of people whining and complaining to get attention.

No, I just want her not to force it on me. I can handle a little here and there but she tries to make me go to church, sing the more Christian Christmas songs, pray before eating, ect. I respect her beliefs but she tends to not respect mine...

I am so getting the Humanist thing on my tombstone when I die. He's such a happy little guy.

Do people actually say "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays" to each other? I don't know that I've ever heard anyone say either of those things. I'll pay closer attention this year, but I'm pretty sure that people where I live just keep using the same greetings and parting phrases that they use the rest of the year.

Also why is that the Atheist symbol?

That's the symbol for an organization called American Atheists. Personally, I hate that symbol, even though I'm an atheist. Good thing I'm not in the military.

Why is that the symbol? Probably because there isn't a more well known one.

That's because the more religious christmas songs are better.

Amazingly, some people are capable of seperating their personal beliefs from their job. Quite amazing, I know. Almost worthy of being a president ;)

War on Christmas? Maybe. But it won't be the usual suspects. Not liberals or atheists, or anything like that. Oh no no no. When war on Christmas happens, we'll all know it. Why? I'll tell you why. Because this is the face of war on Christmas.

They are, so are the decorations really...My Pagan mother even puts them up...And my sister's the same way with Christianity...

Personally, I see it as an opportunity to make Mary Whore jokes, and question why the animals were put out to starve/freeze to death in the winter, :)
