Really, I need to become better able to talk to people, and find a better place to pick up on them than a Community College, :lol2:

This is very simple, I'm starting a movement here.
Everyone just say...
"Merrappy hanuchrisolstikwanzamadanoxing day!"

or if you are more of a negative person, your job is shorter.
"Merrcrappy hanuchrisocolypse!"

Problem solved...

Surely the founding of the US as a country without an established Christian church makes it a country founded on secular rather than Christian principles.

No, not really. They weren't trying to make a theocracy. At that time Christianity was a huge part of life. Almost all the founders were Christians, if not all of them. They didn't want to force their beliefs on everyone, which is obviously a good thing. If you want a little hint, just look at the whole taking an oath system. An oath, at that time at least, was a promise to God.

Try again http://freethought.mbdojo.com/foundingfathers.html The majority of the founding fathers were Deists, believing in a creator, but had no specific religion. http://nobeliefs.com/Tripoli.htm and http://www.barefootsworld.net/founding.html

He was a deist actually, he was part of the Freemasonry, when he references "god" he means the God of the Freemasons, which was viewed as a sort of "Architect"...

Whereas Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin and others consistently rejected the notion of an omnipotent God, and wrote books to that effect...Jefferson had one that was a rewrite of the whole bible with all divine references omitted...

Meh, whatever. I'm not gonna change any of your guys' opinions and your not going to change mine.

I do have a question though. I'm not challenging your or anything, but where does it say they were deists? Link? Not some historian who says it, a document or proof that says so.

In case no one saw my question at the end. I believe Deism is a branch of Christianity anyways, yes?

No

NO! Of course you can. Merry Holidays from this Catholic who thinks a war on Christmas would be comical if people didn't get so serious about it.

Meh, there's a radio station in Indianapolis, ( a fairly large media market) that has been playing Christmas Music 24/7 since
-Halloween-

Have your average terrorist detainee listen to -that- for a week or two nonstop. About the umpteenth time they hear 'Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer' they'll probably tell you way more than you want to know.

For the -real- hardcore types a few days of 'Barney' music ought to do the trick :D

Well the War has begun. I was listening to the radio while playing Chess, and this woman (the host of the show) ranted about not being able to find a Religious Christmas Card. I tried calling in to give her a piece of my mind, but she switched subject before I could get in and they hung up on me, bastards.

If people are anything like the people on here they would.

Fortunately the majority of people you meet outside of NSG are nothing like some of the people you come into contact with here.
You know you've made it on NSG when you have a whole thread created around what you said.

They do that?

A school principle a few years back did that at his school, Kris Kringle was still allowed but it had to be called something else, as well as the end of year show Christmas chorals were banned because they might offend non-Christians.

Instead what was encouraged to be sung was traditional Jewish and Islamic songs, apparently the principle didn't care if non-Jewish and non-Muslims were offended.

Atheists lost out again.

If I can find an article on it I will tell you but this was quite a few years ago.

It hardly matters what the religion of the Founding Fathers was. What does matter is they believed in the principle of separating church and state. End of story. Some indisputable documents could come to light that proved that every single one of them worshipped Satan that wouldn't mean that its ok to have Satanic rituals on public property.

Hmm, do public parks count as public property? Because during the warmer months, we tend to have our rituals at a public park.

Yes it is, however, I think the constitution only applies to the government doing it rather than individuals.

So while it is legal for you to have your ritual down at the park it would not be legal for the government to put a pagan display up.
