Wrong. If we only taught things that were irrefutable, all school would be math class.

These people wouldn't even allow that. Remember, we are talking about the people who think that math is socialist.
I support peace in Israel and Palestine. The governments and people in power on all sides are an absolute disgrace, and their unwillingness to pursue peace is a disservice to the people they are meant to be serving. The status quo is not simply untenable; it is unquestionably unacceptable.

Actually, there are a few problems with math as well. For instance, do number exist, or are they just measurements? A lot of math relies on the former.

What's so funny?

Creationism is undeniably false and should not be taught to any children either.

I mean unless you feel that it is okay to teach children alchemy and magic as well.

Well chemistry was born out of alchemy, Alchemists sought to find a substance for life and/or wealth and ended up making substances that could kill.

Teaching reality is not a violation of religious freedom. If you want to teach your children that the earth is flat, you're more than welcome to. State funded education, however, will teach what's true.

For those of you who speak of "controversy" regarding climate change or evolution, there is no controversy. There are facts, and those who viciously deny those facts. There is truth, and those who will not accept truth, no matter how often or intensly they are exposed to it. That is the reality of the situation.

Those of you who say we should have equal time for Creationism and Evolution, I am more than willing to accept, but only on the following basis:

1) It stems from this logic that Alchemy and Astrology should be taught alongside Chemistry and Astronomy, as well as all creation myths other than the Christain one. So please demonstrate your support for these ideas as well, and be constistent with your logic.

2) You must also be willing to teach Darwinism in your Sunday School classes, in equal time with how much you teach your children about Creationism. Or end the Church and religious organization's "taxt exempt" status, as well as end all the government's spending on assisting religious projects both here, and abroad (like in Isreal).

The funny shit about this is, their "solution" (forcing Christian creation myths to be taught in science classrooms as an alternative to actual science) would be a real violation of religious freedom. Them being unable to understand that just blows me away (or maybe they do, and they're just making these arguments with bad intentions, I don't know).

For some people "religious freedom" means nothing more than the freedom to follow their religion.

And yet when I point out that religiosity is inversely correlated with one's ability to do good science, people whine that I'm being unfair...

Evolution isn't entirely irrefutable.

It makes sense and it has evidence backing it up, and that's why it's what is taught.

Alternatives otherwise offered have just never measured up to it's standard.

Usually because the people who present it have ulterior motives that rarely if ever include the expansion of knowledge.

I'm not sure that "Certain key elements of living cells are so complex that they can only have been designed and put in place by an external actor with sufficient power to do so" represents an "expansion of knowledge."

Yes, you should have. *summons Guards*

The sad thing is, there are more than a few people who think that. Several of them sit on the Texas Board of Education and the committee that reviews textbooks for the Texas school system. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/09/29/educa ... ks.html?hp

I love it how nutritionists and chemical engineers are passing judgement on evolution. Funny how you don't seem to get very many biologists of any stripe doing that.
