Dysfunction in the American Congress

Postby Centertalia » Fri Sep 27, 2013 5:30 pm

I have been observing the abhorring dysfunction in the Congress, further complicated by the recent Republican attempt to shut down the government. So, what's your view on this problem? Who's fault is it? And how can we solve it?

Note: It would be easier for everyone if you could identify which political party/ideology you associate with, so if you include it in your message, it would be great.
Thanks. :)

It's everyone's fault, and they all suck. I don't associate myself with any of them, and am goram tired of the public at large voting in such self-absorbed lying wastes of our time and resources. And then putting up with them rather than finding a way to give 'em the boot.

Grr, argh, fed up with politics.

I see two things happening:
A: The Debt Ceiling is raised before anything happens. Dems give in to Republcan demands, save for Obamacare.

B: The Debt Ceiling is not raised. Shit hits the fan. A few weeks later, it is raised.

I am an anarchist, though, as hypocritical as you may want to call me, I vote Democrat.

Now, I can't see the Democrats giving in. As a matter of fact, I can't see either party giving in. How do you suppose this happens?

It's politics. Corruption, vote buying, ignorance, pride, it's all mixed into that one job of being in congress, parliament, etc. we have a 14% approval rating, which isn't all that common. Congress people need to lose the pride and ignorance and so do the people. If we stop listening to what ever the media spews at us we may actually have a good form of government.

I see the Dems giving because unlike the Repubs, they aren't willing to put the economy on the line over a single bill and use it as a bargaining chip.

Actually they are very smart. They know exactly what they can get away with and who runs the circus to get money (as if they don't get enough already)

We solve this problem by introducing term limits to stop the power vacuum and these congressman running until there fucking 90 and we simply boot all the ones we now have.

But you know that would never pass. Just as if someone tried to pass a law saying the people had to decide their pay checks. Congress will always have that right I garuntee that.

Clearly, Pawnee, Indiana makes the best waffles. Specifically JJ's Diner.
Male. I think that's all for now.

Thanks. :)

it is the republicans "fault".

you can tell that this is the truth because they made no attempt whatsoever to make concessions to the democrats for things that they might want to include in a CR/debtlimit bill.

im a democrat.

Yes, but that solves a short term problem. When we replace these congressmen, we're replacing old gunk for new gunk, new gunk that is a machine created by the political party they represent to get their way. A politician is NOTHING without the backing of his/her party.

But seriously, let's be helpful and actually debate :p
