No, a CATHOLIC state. There is nothing in the Vatican to adhere or appeal to the other denominations, it is purely Catholic and nothing more or less. You can't call it a Christian state, it only appeals to ONE denomination, a Christian state would mean it applies to ALL denominations.

I have been hearing what has been happening to Christians in other nations ( the Middle East, for example) and I have been refledcting that perhaps it might be possible for a Christian only nation. The reason that I write this is because I am Christian, and allthough I politely disagree with people of other religions and they politely disagree with me, it seems like Christians are gettinbg killed a lot in the Middle East. I was just thinking it would save a lot of lives if we had a nation sort of like Israel, where any Christian could fly in if they were being persecuted. Of course, I understand the horror of the Holocaust and the impact it had on Jewish communities, so I'm not trying to compare the two. Still, do you think it is a good idea or a bad idea? Why?

Your comment implies that societal bigotry towards minorities was, somehow, different in the Union. You're right. It was worse. The Southern States just sent the escaped slaves back to their owners. Maybe whipped them. The Northern States? Hung them, sold those who weren't hung to the Southern States, and imprisoned them. How is that worse? Because moral soapbox-artists of today forget and ignore that in order to paint the South as sole beneficiary for all teh ebuls of the American past.
