To be clear, I am a racist in that I believe in race, but I don't use the n word not because it is offensive but more because it is rude and demeaning. I want to be a cultured racist that is able to treat the different races with respect while still keeping primarily to my own race in my private life.

The word itself isn't magic, and the circumscription doesn't make much sense when referring to it. Using it outside of quotation marks - that is, using the word rather than referring to the word - is extremely bad form. And the thing with quotation marks is that they're kind of hard to pronounce.
