Why the fuck is this a subject of debate? Of course it's racist and offensive!

We say "People of Color", but in this case, it would be much more accurate and pertinent to say, "Not all Black people take offense to it." Since not all People of Color are Black; some are Indigenous, some are Brown, some are Asian, etc.

Only situation where I can think it would be offensive is if you called someone "a black". The offensiveness revolves more around the use of "a", I think. "S/he's black." is not really offensive.

Saying "a black person" makes it less offensive sounding as well.

Saying "a Black" pathologizes Blackness. Saying "a Black person" reaffirms the humanity of said individual, and is thus preferred.

Any time I or my friends have used the N word (white, black, or asian), it has always been in a multicultural group and used jokingly.

Saying "nigger" near a black person probably won't cause a problem in the Netherlands, unless the black person in question is "Americanized".

The English word isn't nearly as racially charged here, and the Dutch word "nikker" is outdated and really not used by anyone anymore (not by blacks themselves either).
