So apparently, because of the Obamacare standoff, the US government might shutdown. What do you think NSers? Im blaming the Republicans, but please do not turn this into a flaming debate.

Discuss.

[Modedit: I've altered the thread title, because the question mark is no longer exactly apropos government managed to pass the thing meaning it gets to do things. Let's hope it won't need altering again soon! ;P]

A little over dramatic. They just want to be in the news and all anti-Obama care

I wouldn't necessarily lay the sole finger of blame upon the Republicans when the Democrats are of equal responsibility for this schoolyard showdown that keeps happening.

Sigh...anyone else getting that feeling of Deja vu?

I didn't become a libertarian for nothing. But I think that the democrats are more responsible than the republics, but the republicans aren't fully in the clear.

Are the democrats the one holding Congress and the nation hostage to repeal a law that would never get repealed through honest means?

Obama must really be stupid if he thinks that threatening Republicans, many of whom are libertarian-repbublicans, with a government shutdown will work.

Would cause way, way more problems than its worth.

No they hold Congress hostage to pass their retarded legislation instead and refuse to compromise, like the Republicans.

The Republicans are being brats about Obamacare. DO SOMETHING ELSE FOR ONCE, YOU DINOSAURS.

Wait, you think this is Obama doing that? Oh no. Obama has no reason to do so, when he knows full well that Congress will never and can never repeal his healthcare law. He has America's mandate, right now. America as a country does not want healthcare do be repealed.

What's happening is that Boehner has yielded to extremist pressure in the House, and now they refuse to pass any law keeping the government running unless it also defunds the ACA.

Crushes any chances of the GOP gaining seats in 2014.

My mother works as a home health nurse and has been told that she might lose her job because of Obamacare so I agree with the GOP on this one.

Here in Texas junior Senator Ted Cruz has threatened a filibuster while senior Senator John Cornyn has said he is willing to compromise and doesn't support the filibuster. One will not be in office come 4/6 years.

You know what would be nice?

A constitutional amendment requiring at least four years for a "trial run" of new laws passed. I don't care how good or bad they are, they'd at least be doing something.

Let me make one point clear. America voted for the Democrats. Not the Republicans. For Obama. Not for Romney. If we had proportional representation, then Democrats would have more seats than the Republicans.

So, Obama has America's mandate to do what he wants. He pushed the ACA through Congress, like it should. He pushed the rest of his laws through Congress, like they should be. Give me one example where he held Congress hostage to push through a law that otherwise would have been struck down by Congress?
