Incorrect. There is a reason men are stronger than women, and it is for physical purposes (sports, heavy duties, and so on). Women too have their roles; keeping the house tidy and rearing children (although I have no qualms with her being employed, either...especially if it means a larger paycheck at the end of the week). Even if you don't like the egalitarian argument for abolishing the social need for gender roles, consider this: if we end gender roles, and allow people to compete not on accidents of birth but on actual talent, then the economy, and progress, will improve as a whole.

Well, if you want to control your spouse and make sure they're unable to leave you no matter how poorly you treat them, then making sure they don't have their own source of income or the sort of support network that coworkers can provide is a good way to do it.
