Funds provided by the government to keep people from starving. They're usually accessed through a plastic card called an EBT card, and can only be used for the purchase of food. No alcohol, cigarettes, or other naughty things.

Yeah, if the poor can't afford to buy proper nutrition they should just do society a favor and die.

One thing I am glad to see is the use of the EBT card. The old system (with actually currency-like certificates) allowed one to make multiple, small purchases, receiving actual cash in change (up to 99 cents) which was then accumulated to buy alcohol and cigarettes.
