How would that change anything other than cause more conflict, which would probably increase the amount of poverty and rape?

Clearly, if she agrees, then she wants to. Even if there's coercion involved, I suppose this is still technically true (she prefers sex to being killed). But, if she agrees b/c she's someone's wife, that's probably not rape (I mean, maybe the circumstances of marriage are such that there's an implicit threat of force... idk about the conditions of life in east asian marriages). Like, someone doesn't have to agree to sex because they'd enjoy it - people have sex for emotional gratification (like feeling that they've pleased their partners), so I really don't think this (a woman having sex without her primary reason being enjoyment) is rape.

Well I never said it was feasible. I just said I wished the Dutch was still in control. It was all good till the Japanese ruined everything.

They're not. The Dutch gave Indonesia a lot of autonomy.

They're not. The Dutch gave Indonesia a lot of autonomy.

It was a Dutch colony, the Dutch are white; regardless of how much autonomy Indonesia had, it was still under Dutch control.

Um the question was have you had sex with a partner despite knowing she didn't want to. That's the textbook definition of rape. Also marital rape exists.

Why does that matter? Regardless, things still weren't good during the colonial period. The Dutch heavily exploited Javanese peasants, prevented them from learning Dutch so that they wouldn't be able to organize, and took all the profits from Indonesia's natural resources.
