Teaching abstinence in schools does not prevent teenagers from having sex. It merely ensures that when they do have sex (which is statistically earlier than in places where sex ed is taught), it is unsafe and at much higher risk for pregnancies and STI transmission.

Go on about chastity and saving it for marriage and all that lovely nonsense all you like - you can even hold yourselves up as the paragons of virtue that you apparently are - it doesn't do anything in the real world to lower transmission rates, teen pregnancies and ignorance about sex.

Simple as that.

HPV you can get form mutual masturbation, petting, sharing a toilet seat, or swimming in an improperly chlorinated pool.

Then clearly there is a lot more wrong with your school than just a mere case of "Librul agenda". It means some teacher at your school made a mistake and should face the consequences. To say that this isolated incident is part of a wider trend across the nation is ridiculous.

When I was in tenth grade we had health classes in which we were made to watch movies of people with syphilis and gonorrhea. Sores, blindness, no hair, horror.

What effect did it have?

Our small city continued to lead the state in the rate of teen pregnancies.

No. But you could have it. It's possible to transmit it that way, just not very likely.

However, if you've ever had sex:

So your solution to how to curb an epidemic of an incredibly virulent pathogen is - rather then giving people the vaccine that exists and protects against it - to tell teenagers to engage in no sexual play whatsoever?

Yeah... that'll work.

An anecdote is not equivalent to a nation-wide study of sexually-active teenagers.

The statistics don't lie, regardless of what you claim about your city and 10th grade class.

Interestingly enough, the concern over it came to be in the seventies, or around that time. A company developed a cream — if I remember correctly, it didn't work — to treat genital warts, and suddenly it was an issue.
