In principle, you can do a lot of the same stuff on the bass as on the guitar. You're just missing two strings (and dropped an octave).

In principle, you can do a lot of the same stuff on the bass as on the guitar. You're just missing two strings (and dropped an octave).

The problem is that no matter how you slice it, it's hard to emulate the same rich, deep tone of a bass on a guitar. It comes out twangy because the strings are not as heavy :p .

The reverse is true though, a bass can't sound quite as light and dexterous as a guitar.
