Of course it isn't acceptable to call anyone an "it" (unless they really want to be called an "it"). When referring to a trans* person (or any person, really), one should use their preferred pronoun.

Why it has taken the mods more than two weeks to come to a decision on this is beyond me. Maybe it's the same reason they decided that suggesting to brand trans* people wasn't trolling.

Or why they didn't do anything about a child rapist for over 6 months.

It is almost universally felt that when we call a country democratic we are praising it; consequently, the defenders of every kind of regime claim that it is a democracy, and fear that they might have to stop using the word if it were tied down to any one meaning.

Every single female person I know who has gotten married in the last 5 years has changed her name. My friend was born Samantha Brickman, and then all of a sudden she was expecting me to call her Samantha Royce. Can you imagine? I had to remember a WHOLE NEW NAME for a person just because they arbitrarily decided they wanted to be called that! She wasn't BORN Samantha Royce! That's not what's on her birth certificate! How dare she expect to be referred to differently!

Somehow, I muddle through, though.

Dreadfully inconsiderate of her. She's probably a cultural marxist who's trying to bring down Western society.

I just find it hilarious that if I change my pronoun I'm a radical liberal homosexualist destroyer of Society, and if I refuse to change my surname I am also a radical liberal homosexualist destroyer of Society.

These things must be dealt with thoughtfully. Like how if I wanted to refer to all black persons with the "it" pronoun, I'm sure the mods would need to think very, very carefully because I might just be expressing the totally-valid-and-in-no-way-trolling alternate viewpoint that black persons are subhuman things, and they wouldn't want to make a rash ruling that might stifle my contributions to the valued discussion on these forums.

Either that or, ya know, the moderation on this topic is a giant hypocritical clusterfucktastrophe.

Ah but we are not mere animals. What other animal is capable of abstract thought about things that do not exist, have not happened, could possibly happen, and death?

We don't know for sure.
There are suggestions that some dogs, dolphins, parrots, and apes are capable of those thoughts, based on their responses to tests.

Koko the sign-language ape is also aware of death and what it means for her etc.

There is an out of control trolley speeding towards Jeremy Bentham, who is tied to the track. You can pull the lever to cause the trolley to switch tracks, but on the other track is Immanuel Kant. Bentham is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Critique of Pure Reason. Kant is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Principles of Moral Legislation. Both men are shouting at you that they have recently started to reconsider their ethical stances.

They are not inferior for evolving differently.
Several animals are capable of abstract thought. Not to the degree that humans can, but they are still capable.
Many animals seem to be able to understand death.

Cute. Let's not troll. The thread in question has a lot more to it than this simply-answered bit - which offhand, is "no, you should not call anyone an 'it', regardless". Thank you for playing, have a nice day.
