I continue to be amused by the number of boys on this thread who appear to believe that the worst-case scenario of "woman menstruates in public without using tampons/pads/etc." is something resembling the elevator scene from The Shining rather than "I can see a small brownish-red stain on her pants." Seriously, dudes, it's a tiny bit of blood. Even if women went around staining their pants willy-nilly for the hell of it (which will not happen), I'm pretty sure you can survive the horror of "someone in my presence has a STAIN on her PANTS."

Let's just say some women stop wearing tampons first with the idea that it will be only in their homes, wouldn't the next step for some (whether right or wrong for them to do) be to stop wearing them at all, and this kind of thing would happen in public.

There is a reason doctors and med techs wear gloves all the time. Blood carries transmissible diseases, among other things. Plus, how would you feel if people decided public urination was just fine? They are both bodily fluids. I usually don't try to interfere with the opposite gender, but honestly, seeing blood all over someone's pants doesn't exactly lend a welcoming air.

The notion, even with it's caveat (a tampon can be comfortable to you) is just a little on the loopy side. There's nothing oppressive about not bleeding all over yourself.
