Could I point out that while Manchester might not have the biggest population, Greater Manchester has a hell of a lot.

Anyway, Glasgow's bigger in terms of population and, thanks to the docks and financial district, probably a lot larger economically.

Pretty sure Leeds has a bigger population

I agree.

But, too be fair, it depends on your definition. Leeds proper, as in the city centre (I think) is possibly smaller, but the whole of Leeds is much bigger.

It seems our cities must battle for the title of Capital of the North...

It could also be seen as a Rose war, in some respects.

May the best Rose win

Well if it is as complicated as the BBC's White Queen series, keep me out of it.

By the way, we'd win.

#Leeds4Capital

Seriously though. Glasgow would be a logistical nightmare for a capital. Leeds is central on the island of Great Britain. Either we get it, or the Manx do. And considering that the Isle of Mann is a Crown Dependency...

Exactly.

Yeah, that sounds about right. We're definitely larger economically though, you can't argue that.

Manchester or Edinburgh. Honestly, I don't remember if Edinburgh is Scottish or English (I'm American and bad at geography), but I'd like to see a new Buckingham Palace there.

Ok, so lets imagine a hypothetical (but possible) near future where British scientists discover that London is to be flooded by rising sea levels in a years time. With no time to build effective and long term water barriers, and with the current ones ineffective, the Parliament of Great Britain votes to re-locate the capital.

Here are the challenge questions

1) Which city should be the new political capital of the UK?

2) Where in the UK should the economic executives relocate?

3) What is to be done with the 7 million Londoners trapped by water and power blackouts?

So, what would you do?

1) Flash, Staffordshire - as the highest populated point in the UK, its the logical place.

2) Manchester, busiest international Airport outside of London.

3) Evacuated over the course of a year. You'd have to seize private property to house them elsewhere at a sane cost.

York is the only obvious choice here for the capital. Then we'll rename the city back to Eboracum Put the Earl of Loudoun on the throne and we'll destroy the Saxe-Coburg-Gotha usurpers. That seem reasonable to everyone?

1) Probably Birmingham or somewhere.
2) Probably somewhere near Birmingham. Oh god, that means they'd be near me :(
3) Distribute them around the country. Either that, or start a ridiculous plan to build an enormous moon base.

The word 'guff' is the reason we need to move away from England :p Seriously, it's no more than religion and football, and for me just the latter. I moved to the south coast a few years ago and if I met anyone from Hampshire online, I'd ask 'Scummer or Scate?'

Lol yeah same here. Its just the sport and after that, Hun and taig really don't mean anything to me.

1) Which city should be the new political capital of the UK?
Obviously a city with lots of historic and majestic building should become the next capital, so my vote goes to Milton Keynes.

2) Where in the UK should the economic executives relocate?
See above.

3) What is to be done with the 7 million Londoners trapped by water and power blackouts?
They should try their best to grow gills.
