Sentiments. See, my government can't change the sentiments. It is rooted very deep. Chinese usually richer and natives not.

Past sentiments of 1998 incidents where the Chinese were burned to death, among other things, also still intact within the hearts of my nation's people.

That's not limited to Indonesia. That's the case in my home country too (Philippines). Its a common stereotype there that Chinese have businesses.

Perhaps, but that has nothing to do with what he stated (gender equality).

Huh. Is it just me or does anyone else get the feeling that Japan's society and culture (or something, that's my best educated guess) are really traumatizing the fuck out of pretty much everyone over there?

I really doubt that.

I'm not sure if the people celebrate it, but shops/theme parks were going all out with Halloween when I was there a month ago.

I'm pretty sure most people don't celebrate it, if any.

Pretty sure no one trick-or-treats as well.

It's growing. It's nowhere near America's level, but it is growing. It's now the third most celebrated foreign holiday behind Christmas and Valentine's Day and it is no longer odd to see Halloween themed food or decorations in stores.

But, yeah, a general trick-or-treat... no. Halloween parties... yes. Still, I took my sons trick-or-treating last Saturday to a street party celebrating it's 17th year. http://halloshio.naganoblog.jp/

You'd think that Halloween would have caught on more quickly in the country that gave us cosplay, especially considering its incredibly rich mythology.

Skimming through Google seems to indicate that the Japanese think that Halloween is some sort of pumpkin worship holiday, though :P

Frustrated w/Japan a little; ban you for being fat, and downloading stuff from the internet. Their culture and demography's one you could envy, though.

So the Chinese drones patrolling the skies of Japan and Japan sent F-2s to the drones.

I guess the war is inevitable.

I actually feel the opposite.

Of course, I'm also convinced that every time I visit Tokyo it steals a little bit of my soul.

A bit, yes. Though, honestly, if you know what you're doing Tokyo can be done rather cheap.

I just found the people of Osaka to be quite rude and unfriendly, which soured my experience a bit.

I do like the Glico Man, though 8)

Hmm... oddly enough, I know people from Osaka feel that way about Tokyoites.

Of course I admit that I am probably biased a bit as my wife hails from Western Japan and not Eastern.

And speaking of down south... http://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2013/1 ... m8D2nBHLVo

I can't say I ever put a serious effort into learning Japanese and I probably won't do so for quite some time.
Still, I'm content listening to the various kinds of music that can be found from there. :p

I am, however, considering going to Japan to teach English should certain plans of mine fall through completely.

As for the country's politics, I do not know enough to have any opinions.

Teaching English in Japan is pretty common for foreigners. I think I might also go for that if I'm going to work in Japan. I'll expect more competition though.
