"Under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance

The original Pledge of Allegiance was written by a Baptist minister and he felt no need to include "Under God".

So?

People might not believe in God, and as some pointed out, the "Under God" part violates parts of the US constitution?

I know, I think it should be removed as well. My point was that a religious leader (Minister) wrote it without "Under God" so God (if one exists) probably wouldn't mind not being in it (or at least an educated theologian thinks so).

They should get rid of the pledge of allegiance in schools full stop. It seems a bit like state-endorsed propaganda/brainwashing from my humble British perspective. When I first learnt about it, at first I didn't believe it, it put me in mind of Nazi Germany and the Hitler Youth. Coming from a nation where a politician would probably be branded racist if they even suggested such a thing, to me, it sounds like something out of an authoritarian state.

If you live in the US, chances are you want to be somewhat loyal?

I want a plausible explanation for why we should keep "Under God" within the Pledge and not revert it back to the Pre-Cold War Era version of the Pledge.

No-one should be required to swear in words, allegiance or loyalty to "this flag". It's just plain stupid.
