Land mines are a great way to chlorinate the gene pools of shitty countries. If people aren't smart enough to figure out that they shouldn't be going into the field where people keep exploding, they're not fit for survival. Give it a few generations and they'll stop doing it.

Good luck keeping out kids that have never seen anyone get hurt there. And if their parents tell them to stay out, well that won't stop those little tykes..

How am I supposed to empathize someone who doesn't care? Still, I do that. I could care less about my countrymen in the US for the poor people in the world, they need more help. I don't care where people are born.

They do become inert after a time. Eventually the charge will degrade to the point that it won't do anything.

Of course if those shitty countries would actually send teams out to clear out mines after a field is discovered this wouldn't be an issue. Treaties can't stop laziness.

Land mines have legitimate military uses. Trying to guilt-trip people with pictures of maimed children won't change that. That being said, any nation that uses them should really try to clean 'em up when the war's over.

Vegetable oil...grease...all that kind of stuff. These things can render hands(or other body parts) completely useless if they are hot enough.

I would say that banning them outright is probably not a good idea, as they are needed in certain places, like the DMZ in Korea to keep the North out...

However, they should be more careful in where they put them, and restrict them to places like that, a land mine has no business in a civilian city...

Even if the U.S. did sign it, it wouldn't stop other countries that didn't sign it from using them. Those other countries would just have an extra weapon in their arsenal that treaty signers don't.

If the bigger countries as USA, China and Russia would sign the treaty, trust me then they can use softpower to outlaw landmines for everyone.
