In the future when they are perfected...

I imagine they would be launched from Earth or space locations to target Earth or space targets with pinpoint accuracy and overwhelming firepower.

It would COMPLETELY revolutionize warfare by adding a new theater that trumps control of air space and air warfare... space.

It won't be air supremacy or land army mass that decides victories... it will be who has command of space. Who has the capability to launch missiles and drop bombs from space.

It will be about who can control the satellites in space and thus has informational supremacy...

It will be about who controls the key resource in space routes, planets and outposts.

There will also likely be new fighters that can travel between space and Earth's atmosphere with ease... thus allowing them bypass most anti-aircraft defenses without warning and attack suddenly and with high precision.

The implications are HUGE.

The USA MUST take advantage of its present advantage in space to protect itself from everyone else. It should start staking claims in space now and build the weapons that will actually win wars in the future.

Don't we have a treaty in place that prevents governments from staking claims on other planets/celestial bodies?

I think so, but since when has a piece of paper ever stopped anybody?

Quite a few times, actually.

The Parkus Empire: Being serious on NSG is like wearing a suit to a nude beach.
New Kereptica: Since power is changed energy over time, an increase in power would mean, in this case, an increase in energy. As energy is equivalent to mass and the density of the government is static, the volume of the government must increase.

Exactly...

The USA would be naive if it thinks Russia and China would play by the rules when they have the tools.

We need to act now...

It's like the European scramble all over again... if we don't take colonies while we can... someone else will.

This applies to space.

By "everyone else," you mean extraterrestrials, righ...?

How about we start protecting us from ourselves? If the United States starts militarizing space, then all other powers will follow in its footsteps. The fear of the militarization of space will lead to the militarization of space itself. Even if space will, at some point, be militarized, there's no point for the United States to be the ones to instigate it.

First of all, conventional missiles are way more accurate than orbital missiles will ever be. I have gone over this previously. The planet rotates. Burning retrograde takes time.

Secondly, they would be going rather slowly due to atmospheric drag, which would also likely rip the missile apart unless its heatshields were sufficient. Said heatshields would probably soften the impact slightly. Nevertheless, you'd probably never reach the 4,000 m/s that ICBMs impact targets at.

Thirdly, space warfare would be ridiculously expensive, so let's stick to the atmosphere for now.

Fourthly, I don't believe that the USA has created an SSTO plane yet, let alone conceived SSTOs with guns attached, so good luck with that.

The implications are tiny and ridiculous.

There are no such things as space routes. This is just more proof of how you're completely ignorant to the way actual astronomy works, and that you're basing all of this off of Star Trek.

The whole idea is fucking ridiculous.

Wow. That's amazing.

First Amendment is irrelevant to who God''s chosen people are.

When you have come into the land that the Lord your God is giving you, and have taken possession of it and settled in it, and you say, “I will set a king over me, like all the nations that are around me,” you may indeed set over you a king whom the Lord your God will choose. One of your own community you may set as king over you; you are not permitted to put a foreigner over you, who is not of your own community.

Deuteronomy 17:14-15

Yeah, why was God supporting the side where major influences included Benjamin "Lighthouses are more useful than Churches" Franklin, John "This would be the best world if there were no religions in it," Adams, and Thomas "Millions of innocent men, women, and children, since the introduction of Christianity, have been burnt, tortured, fined, imprisoned; yet we have not advanced one inch towards uniformity. What has been the effect of coercion? To make one half the world fools, and the other half hypocrites. To support roguery and error all over the earth," Jefferson?

Seriously, why would an omniscient god support people who obviously have said nasty things about the religion he created and are disobeying the commands he wrote thousands of years ago? If anything, that would be the time for God to support the nation that is both a monarchy and, technically, a Christian theocracy due to divine right.

To claim status as a patriotic American and a religious nationalist is a paradox that requires ignorance or stupidity to exist considering America being founded on civic nationalism, not religious nationalism, ethnic nationalism, or cultural nationalism.

"The notion of a Christian commonwealth should be exploded forever...Government should protect every man in thinking and speaking freely, and see that one does not abuse another. The liberty I contend for is more than toleration. The very idea of toleration is despicable; it supposes that some have a pre-eminence above the rest to grant indulgence, whereas all should be equally free, Jews, Turks, Pagans and Christians."

-Minister John Leland

Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason, than that of blind-folded fear.

-Thomas Jefferson

Except conventional EARTH-BASED weapons trump space based ones as it stands and besides which, the US has a HUGE development budget for new weapons and technologies. They don't develop in isolation
