The Mac Donald's Strike

Postby Saint Kitten » Wed Aug 28, 2013 3:24 pm

Benefits as in payed vacation, longer leaves, etc. only applying to lower end jobs (again, no offense to anyone)

ABC News
New York Times
USA Today
Feel free to pick which ever news source you wish, I picked the major ones.

So, basically, these workers that are employed by Mac Donald's are striking about their pay. They (assuming everyone in the protest is on the same page) want to be payed $15.00 an hour instead of the minimal wage of $7.25 depending on your state.

USA Map of wages

So, do you agree that they should be payed more?
Should it be kept the same?

Opinions, more facts, and other fun related stuff dealing with Mac Donald's strikes is what this topic is about.

They should move to Canada.
Minimum wage here is $10.00.
I would know.
I worked there all summer making 80 dollars a day.

15 is a lot for just handing out burgers (no offense, have to do what you have to do), I guess if you work there a while a pay raise should be a question but 15 is kinda high

It would be interesting to know how many people to participate.
I love to see Unions redistributing wealth to the workers. This is the reason why a capitalist socieity ain't that bad.

Burger flipping is not economically worth $15 an hour, almost anyone can do that type of job. If McDonalds gave into this demand, it would lose profits and there would be no more dollar menu.

I read somewhere that much of fastfood is about to undergo platform-level increases in automation.

Those skilled in maintaining, augmenting, and overseeing those devices probably will get $15.00/hr.

I expect everyone else will be fired.

I feel bad for the people who will suffer, but I'm told by an economist I know that it will free up human labor for other things. Not sure what those are.

$15.00 is a fucking joke. Their pay is fine and I don't have any sympathy for the strikers what so ever.

Mac Donald's?

Anyway, basically what Wolf said. By this time all these strikes are just the workers wanting to get into the paper.

Then McDonald's employees will be making more than security guards.

$10 is a good compromise.

They probably actually want 10....

Which is why they negotiate at 15.

I think there should be no national minimum wage, because our national government don't know nothing from nothing
