The Australian asylum policy is... cause for concern. The Australia-PNG Regional Resettlement Arrangement violates both Australia's international obligations as well as basic human rights. The attempt at shifting responsibility away from Australia is worthy of condemnation in itself.

If they don't want to let foreigners in their country, that's their decision which they have a right to make. You cant force them to let everyone into there.

Actually, we agreed to let them in when we signed the Convention relating to the status of refugees in 1954. We said that we'd take them in, that we'd treat them humanely and that we'd give them a fair go....and we're breaking all three promises we voluntarily made.

That whole "we decide who comes here and how" bullshit doesn't fly in the face of commitments we, as a nation, chose to make.

That is an easy fix, as per Articles 42 and 56 of the Vienna conventions Australia Denounces and abrogates the treaty.

Though even without that commitments are worth less than the paper they are written on if the international community is unwilling to enforce it.

This was 50 years ago. Yemen has failed to progress at all in that time, and is in many ways worse, but at the time they were fairly typical of the region.
