I was a big fan of Bob Cousy and his Boston Celtic team; the announcers always pronounced it with an "S" sound.

But when we journeyed to the town of South Gut St. Ann's in Nova Scotia where there is a school which teaches Gaelic as well as related history, they corrected me. Proper form uses "K".

I'm Hispanic, I'm considered mestizo by others, but I think my race might white since I look too light skinned to have half indigenous blood, I also had people believe I wasn't "Mexican", they believed I was "American".

For what it's worth, "kay-se-de-ah" is a laughably crude approximation to the actual Spanish.

On topic, I am what you'd call Hispanic, but it amuses (more than it bothers) me that it can be considered a "race" at all. Hispanic people are presumably the ones who are from a Spanish-speaking country and are at least partially descended from Spanish stock - there are white, "mixed race" and presumably what you'd also count as black, people who fit all of the above. That the term is officially used the US government seems absolutely ridiculous to me - what do you even do with Lusophone Brazilians? What about actual Spaniards, do they get a free pass to "white" because they're European?

Which is to say nothing of the hopelessly outdated idea of "race", but I guess eliminating that would be asking too much at this still far too early point.

EDIT: and the makeup of this forum as revealed by the poll does not surprise me in the least, hooray for diversity.
