Funny, because attitudes like this are the only reason I engage in "San Fran Pride Parade" types of queeritude: I hope to hell I drive away people with this attitude. With fair-weather friends like that, who would need enemies?

The "I'd totally be for equality if y'all weren't so uppity" sorts are worse than useless as allies. Good riddance!

And my point wasn't just to be fair-weather. But when youre talking to people from hardcore small town bible belt you have to moderate yourself at least a little bit otherwise every red state is going to block gay rights at every turn and guess what they'll be successful. I doubt that's the outcome you truly want. I'm all for indivigualism and free expression buyt there does come a point where it's just too much and becomes counterproductive. ;)

So if you can't be a gay rights activist if you don't partake in the "San Fran Pride Parade"?

This is news to me.

i assume youre directing that at Bottle, because i never asserted that. I merely pointed out that in my expierience you will get a lot further as a resonable advocate rather than a san fran radical type. ;)

To be fair, it was a opinion article.

Doesn't excuse them from putting it in the front page though.

Homophobic Bakery Closes Storefront

Postby The Serbian Empire » Tue Sep 03, 2013 2:20 pm

Sweet Cakes By Melissa has closed it's storefront and has downsized to an in home bakery. This closing has come on the heels of the earlier state complaint filed by a lesbian couple who were rejected by the bakery's co-owner Aaron Klein. This is what the Kleins have to say about the complaint as to give a reminder of the event.

The shop's closing came on the heels of news that the lesbian couple that Klein rejected had filed a complaint with the state, alleging that Sweet Cakes by Melissa discriminated against them based on their sexual orientation, according to Oregon Live.

In response to the complaint, the bakery's co-owner Melissa Klein argued that turning away the couple was "definitely not discrimination at all."

"We don't have anything against lesbians or homosexuals," she said in August. "It has to do with our morals and beliefs. It's so frustrating because we went through all of this in January, when it all came out."

Her remarks echoed sentiments her husband Aaron shared with NBC earlier this year. "I think [the state labor commissioner] is going to have decide what's more important: The Oregon State Constitution, or the statute that was passed in 2007," he said at the time. "They dropped the ball by not putting in any exemption for religious beliefs."

I think this news is good as the public has responded to the business's actions and states that we don't stand with discriminatory businesses. So NSG, what do you think of this business downsizing?

I would disagree with you there, faux used to be all about the fair and balanced moniker all the time now you don't hear it nearly as often. And not to get too threadjacky, but Ed Schultz is on union payrolls and Ive never seen him acknowledge that conflict of interest on any of his union stories. ;)

"Fair and Balanced" was an advertising slogan. Just because they aren't using it anymore doesn't mean they've acknowledged that they're not fair and balanced. I don't know about Ed Schultz's sources of income so I can't comment. And you're right, we digress.

The US should import Christian from around the world (mostly from South America) to maintain the power of the Christian faith in America.

Also, this lesbian couple should not be discriminated just because of their sexual orientation, the company should pay some compensation for having a homophobic employee.

It is nothing, it is just that immigration should be encourage in every country. All minorities should be respected: from homosexual people to normal immigrants. The couple from the OP should not be discriminated at all, the company should pay something to the lesbian couple for being homophobic.
