That was a full on tackle.

After a punch to the back of the head that caused him to fall to the ice.

That "hit" (for lack of a better word) was far worse than Shawn's tonight.

Only because, as far as we know, Orpick doesn't have three career-ending fractured vertebrae.

Thornton acted as maliciously as Bertuzzi did.

Even though the hit on Orpik wasn't as bad as Bertuzzi's.

As someone who studied the business side of hockey, as well as playing it, watching it, living it, the reason for the fan increase in Pittsburgh coincided with Crossby showing up, because that's when Lemieux started running the team like it should be run, and got a bunch of people interested in hockey. Chicago had a similar experience in managerial change.

It wasn't the punch that broke Moore, it was the tackle that came after the punch immobilized him. Just look at how Moore landed. Ouch!

Neal clearly went straight for and intended to hit Marchand. That rates at the very least as similar to Thornton's. It's not all about quantity. Quality matters too. Neal's hit was certainly not lacking on that.

Neil intended to knee Marchand, yes. That's the thing: it was a dirty hit.

Thornton went out and attacked Orpick. He didn't hit him, he hauled him down from behind and started punching him in the head with his gloved hand. It wasn't a dirty play; it was a deliberate, one could argue criminal, act on Thornton's part.

Thanks for reminding me why I hate the Bruins. They're a bunch of bullies and goons when they play. I fear for Toronto tonight.

This. I mean, I remember when the Penguins were thisclose to leaving Pittsburgh for better prospects when Lemieux swooped in and saved the day. The guy's done more for that organization than most any other person in hockey has for any other organization.

Yep. The team's attendance rate was drastically low before he arrived, and it changed once he arrived. Lemieux brought the city 2 Cups and team awards as a player, then saved the team from relocation and built a new arena when Mellon Center was starting to show its age.....
