Obviously the lady who send the letter was upset and didn't know what else to do. I see it an overraction, and I really doubt she meant all the things she wrote, but perhaps she did.

She probably should have made a second draft of the letter, however.

It may well be an over reaction and I doubt she meant everything she said but that doesn't change the fact that if she does in fact live in the neighborhood she could have simply spoken to her.

I don't think the issue is bad behavior, the source of her complaint seems to be screaming which she finds disturbing and is apparently frightening her children. The message was unnecessary but that's a legitimate complaint.

The letter would be more offensive if it actually was possible to read it, but i find the euthanasia bit to be exceptionally ironic of said person to write about, because judging from this letter alone she'd qualify under most definitions of it.

It's not hate speech, since hate speech is defined in Section 319 of the Criminal Code as inciting hatred against an identifiable group (i.e. saying that all people with autism should be euthanized).

Most likely it would be a harassment charge, though it might be construed as threat of bodily harm. I heard on CBC a few minutes ago that local police are forwarding the letter to the Crown Prosecutor to determine if there was any criminality (or, as the mother of the boy put it, if the letter writer "crossed a line").

I am Special Needs myself (I have Cerebral Palsy) and I have friends that are Special Needs (Autistic, Bipolar, and Various conditions) and I was appalled.
You know that shocked laughter that people get? I read that and I had shocked laughter.

Of course, there is always the possibility that the lady wrote the letter herself, for one reason or another. That would be interesting.
