A far better example. Never once seen any students sent home for wearing a US flag, in their own nation, during the 17th of may which is the Norwegian independence day.

To be fair, the Norwegians here don't make a big deal out of it, and you don't get free margaritas on that day during happy hour at the bar.

I would say that considering the size of Norway, it's a pretty big deal globally. I mean obviously not as big as Cinco De Mayo in the US, but unless waving the US flag would go along with chants of. 'We don't take kindly to your kind round here' then there is really is nothing wrong with having the flag on said day in their own nation no less.

Though that being said, chances may be that said student was suspended due to a teacher fearing for his safety. but it would still not be the right course of action to take.

Freedom fries is a political euphemism for French fries in the United States. The term came to prominence in 2003 when Congress officially renamed the menu item in Congressional cafeterias in response to France's opposition to the proposed invasion of Iraq.

Cinco De Mayo isn't even Mexican independence day.

The kids were suspended because the Mexican students were "offended" that the American kids were not "acknowledging" their holiday. The American students didn't even talk to the Mexican students. They just wore the flag shirts, and then the Mexican students started heckling them about them.

I'm pretty sure that if a bunch of Americans tried to celebrate the Fourth of July in Mexico, a few of them would end up dead.

It's too much work for EVERYONE involved.

I have met a total of one, but it was back in intermediate school. Someone in my class asked me what "nigger" meant (we were reading To Kill a Mockingbird), and I told them that it was a bad name for a black person. One black guy at my table got offended that I said that, and corrected me, saying that he was "African-American" and not "black." But I guess he is an exception to the general rule.

On the flip side, someone in my English class this past year tried to be too PC and started talking about "the African-Americans in Haiti." Doesn't really work that way, kid.
