I consider somebody to be Asian whenever they were born in anything from Egypt, all the way through the Pacific Islands with the exception of Hawaii.

Unless you are Ma Ying-Jeou, or me for that matter, it's a common trait but that doesn't mean all people from the orient have them, in fact they aren't really "slanty" or "small" just that their eyelids cover the inner angle of the eye.

The correct definition of Asia should be anyone who lives on the continent of Eurasia and west of the Bosporus Strait, Ural Mountains, and Sinai Peninsula. With additions of the Japanese Islands, Sri Lanka, the islands of Indonesia, and the Philippines.

However, when I think "Asian" I think of East Asian. Generally China, the Koreas, Japan, and Southeast Asia minus Myanmar and Indonesia.

Papua New Guinea is Asia? Well that does support my jibe that Western Australia is Asia too

Geographically, it is. In other ways, I'd suppose not.

So China, Mongolia, the Koreas and Japan are the Orient. So what about the following.

In Brazil we call people from Asia (the continent) asiático/asiática/asiáticos and people of East Asian phenotype/culture oriental/orientais, so there is no confusion.

But in the Anglosphere the term Oriental is offensive.

Um what part of the anglosphere do you live in? Be it it sure isn't "offensive" here. Oriental usually means Turkish/Persian oriental rug for example or East Asian, a restaurant called Oriental Palace.

"In Brazil we".

I am not an immigrant (even though I plan to be one, but not to an Anglosphere country).

Why is Hawaii an exception when the rest of the Pacific Islands are in? What about American Samoa or New Zealand?
