It was a typo. I meant that atheists shouldn't feel embarrassed as Dawkins doesn't speak for atheism.

I don't think they should be embarrassed, insofar as much as they let him be a spokesman for the movement. Get someone more moderate up there, someone who says "Hey! We face very real discriminatory issues! Let's focus on that in the name of religious freedom!" Not "GOD IS DEAD."

I'm not an atheist myself. But if I were, I would call for that very thing. I don't want a douchebag like that representing me.

Extremism tends to tarnish a movement or and ideology. The key is to speak up, to counteract the ill effects of extremism. To say 'they do not speak for all of us'.

I respect believers. Within reason. As soon as someone crosses the threshold of extremism, I shut down. I have no respect for extremist Christians or Muslim. Or Jewish. Or any other creed for that matter.

However, I know these fringe elements do not speak for all Christians or Muslims or Jews.
