So thus far this thread has been remarkably nice for a summer NSG thread? Amazing! she also may be in a bad mood that day, or she has a bf, her saying "no" may very well have absolutely nothing to do with you. unless she spits in your general direction, its presumptuos of you to have much of a take on what she is thinking.

they probably don't know you well enough for there to be any personal meaning behind their rejection.

Well that's your problem. You're thinking about what she's thinking. Assumptions are in general a bad thing to utilize when approaching somebody with amorous intent for the first time... and generally not advised even when familiar, but really bad the first time :P
