First of all ask yourself why ?

Is it because of fear of rejection ?
Maybe because of fear of loss of friendship ?
Something else ?
or just shyness ?

Either way, there is no "easy" solution. It is simple though. Just tell her and don't make a big deal out of it. If you are afraid that she might stop being friends with you, well then is the risk worth the reward ? you decide.

So when you're around someone whose opinion really matters to you, you find yourself more anxious about making a good impression. Sounds pretty normal.

However, my original advice stands. There's no shortcut to this. You either say something, or you don't. You will most likely experience rejection at least once or twice in your lifetime. This, too, is normal. It does not mean there is something wrong with you, and it does not mean there is something wrong with the person who rejects you.

You can choose to not say things to people you like, if that's what you want to do. (Just be careful not to become yet another bitter "Nice Guy" who resents all the women who dare to go out with the "alpha" guys who actually, ya know, ask the girls out in the first place.) You will miss out on opportunities, but you also will avoid rejection. It is up to you whether you want to make that trade.
