Well we dont know.
But one thing is for sure, you cant know what happens when you die. You can guess, but you cant know until you actually drop dead.

And does it really matter when arguing about imaginary things ? like how can the invisible pink unicorn be invisible and pink.

Death is observable. Death is testable. We have spent centuries studying living things, and human anatomy. It's pretty safe to say we know what happens when they stop being alive. The basics are actually not difficult to understand.

Living systems differ from non-living system in one respect: They maintain their internal entropy by making use of external energy. (Homoeostasis fuelled by consumption.) A living system dies when it is no longer able to maintain it's internal entropy. (Homoeostasis fails.)

Have you ever died? I thought so.

I cant genuinly beleive you actually think along those lines.

We dont base everything off of our own personal experience. To do so would be stupid.
I for instance have never driven a car, frankly its something I am terrified of and am (without having gone through lessons) terrified of it. This does not mean it makes any sense for me to recognise that people drive cars.

In the same way, whilst none of us here have died (fortunatly, or this conversation would be difficult) we have observed death extensivly. We understand a great deal about what shuts off, at what rate, at what time the brain stops sending signals etc.
We also understand that conciousness is tied to the brain. As an experiential and thinking entity, these states can be altered by effecting the brain in entirely physical matters.
In the same way we know an engine ceases to function when it explodes, we are also at a point where we can indeed say that everything worth calling "you" ceases to exist utterly at the moment of brain death.
Eco-Friendly Green Cyborg Santa Claus

Contrary to the propaganda, we live in probably the least materialistic culture in history. If we cared about the things of the world, we would treat them quite differently. We would be concerned with their materiality. We would be interested in their beginnings and their ends, before and after they left our grasp.

Really?! You think the moon might be made of cheese?! :palm:

I can understand death without dying, because death is an observable occurrence which can be studied and examined. And it's not like there is a shortage of death to study.

It's important to understand one's opponent, and to understand the source of their position, in a debate.

There is in mainstream Christianity, based upon a misinterpretation of a verse in Isaiah.

It's just so gloriously Dark Ages, this notion that the only way of knowing is to personally experience something. Just like that, poof, all of empirical research is gone.

Have you ever physically touched this live wire? Then you can't know it carries a charge!

Have you ever personally been to Madagascar? Then you cannot accept that it exists!

Have you ever personally had leprosy? Then you cannot know anything at all about leprosy, so don't even try to treat it!

And another of these "bear my testimony" religious posters.

It really baffles me, the level of arrogance needed to make such posts. I mean, it's one thing to assume that people on a debate forum might want to debate things with you...that seems fair and reasonable, even if your ideas are kinda shitty.

But to assume that other people just want to hear your beliefs, for no reason, with you openly stating that you're not interested in discussion and making it plain that you won't contribute anything useful?

I really wish I knew what catastrophic parenting mistake leads to this sort of behavior.

Vanilla ice cream is fine. The idea is, Hell by its very nature is the most terrible place in the universe. It's a place where you are denied, utterly denied, the presence and grace of "God." And the worst of it is, you know it. You know that you could be somewhere else but instead you are in Hell. Sure, you might be a ruler there but what are you ruling?

I was kind of imagining generic fire and brimstone hell, with demons torturing you for all eternity. In which case, as ruler, I could make them stop.

Anyway, what happens when you die? Your consciousness returns to the darkness from whence it came.

Ah, My childhood was just fine my friend, I never went to church as a child and my parents did not practice religion but as i grew older and started my own family i began to still think of god as the eternal ruler (But i still do not go to church neither does my Girlfriend soon to be wife)

And Why are my ideas shitty? Maybe i dont feel like debating with a bunch of Left-wing Atheists? (Which makes up the the majority of this site) And i did Contribute i said what was on my mind. And it was relevant towards the topic
