I've been trying to figure this out, I don't have a satisfying answer.
My best understanding of it so far involves making theoretical physicists mad by once again using a partial understanding of one of their things to half-assedly explain something completely unrelated.
But who really cares if theoretical physicists get mad, anyway? So here goes:
I think it's like some sort of Schrodinger's Cat kind of thing where a problem both exists and doesn't exist until someone
addresses it. The act of addressing a problem, by some people's reasoning, thereby collapses the possibilities and somehow
creates the problem. If we just hadn't noticed there was a problem there wouldn't be a problem (but really, there was a problem, we were just ignoring it...)
Or something.
Oh physics...is there nothing a complete bullshit understanding of won't explain if you shoehorn it hard enough?
