Obama is at it again!

On July 26th Obama signed an executive order titled the "African American Education Initiative." The order essentially gives a green light for black students to misbehave in public schools. In two places, Obama's executive order calls on schools to reduce the number disciplinary actions taken against blacks students. The order specifically calls on schools too "not rely on methods that result in disparate use of disciplinary tools."

To comply, public schools would have to engage in a racial quota system of discipline. The executive order will create a new Federal bureaucracy to pressure school systems to comply with the president's demands. The executive order makes no mention of any effort to get black students to improve behavior.

There is a reason why blacks are more likely to be disciplined in school. Black students are more likely to misbehave. The U.S. Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Statistics reports that there is a huge crime rate disparity between blacks and other racial groups.

Based on those disparities, one should expect that there would be a disparity in frequency of bad behavior between black and white school students in the public schools.

The DOJ reports that the homicide rate in the black community is nine times greater than in the white community. Between 1976 and 2005, the DOJ reported that blacks averaged 13 percent of the population, but accounted for 59 percent of felony homicide charges and 53 percent of non-felony manslaughter charges. It also might come as no surprise that 93-95 percent of black homicides victims are killed by a black perpetrator. Most of the rest are killed by a Latino perpetrator.

In reality, blacks are already less likely to be suspended for bad behavior than whites. Often, white teachers and administrators are afraid to discipline black students for fear of being called “racists.” Even some black school officials are afraid of being labeled a “sell-out” by black students.

I see it as nothing more than desperate attempt by the liberals attempting to create a some kind of alternative reality where everyone are equal and there are no conflicts whatsoever. It doesn't matter if such fantasy cannot be achieved, as long as it's out of sight, it's out of mind. The funniest, and also the saddest thing is that the bill doesn't even attempt to take measures to influence the behavior of African-American students in a better direction: it just covers up their misdeeds.

This is just sad. Obama is actually being the biggest racist of all, thinking that African-Americans need some kind of special protection like this.

I see it as nothing more than desperate attempt by the liberals attempting to create a some kind of alternative reality where everyone are equal and there are no conflicts whatsoever. For you, maybe. But as far as I know, most people WANT to be physically healthy; most people WANT to be creative.

As far as "harder sciences" go, if you don't want those sorts of classes, you don't have to take them. In America, you don't HAVE to take Physics, you don't HAVE to take calculus, and there's a reason for that, because, as you say, most people don't need them.

But everyone needs to be physically healthy, or else they die. Not to say that without PE, we'd all die, that's absurd. Not everyone comes out of the womb with the knowledge of how to be healthy, so they have classes to help teach people those necessary skills. Everyone needs to be creative too, because creativity is just another word for "innovation." Creative doesn't mean "artistic." Just about everyone with a career, and even most people without a career, needs to be innovative. Whether you're a venture capitalist, or an engineer, or an architect, or a philosopher, or a doctor, or a researcher, or a teacher, or a politician, or a soldier.

Even ordinary folks have to be innovative! If you want to fix up a room, or upgrade your car, or find better ways to manage your relationships in life. Even plumbers, mechanics, farmers, and shop owners have to be innovative! Hell, even the homeless have to be innovative, or else there would be no chance to advance themselves in life!

Without proper PE classes (which most American schools lack), we'd all be as fat as the average American. Without art/music/literature courses, we couldn't think for ourselves; remember, knowledge is power. And without creativity, or innovation, life would have no point at all.

In short, if you think that arts, PE, and literature are useless, do yourself a favor and shoot yourself in the mouth so that you don't have to enjoy life. Oh wait, don't do that. Thanks to the compassion of the innovative, healthy people who have contributed the most amazing and most mundane things to society, even someone as pointless as yourself can enjoy life and take part in the crazy world we live in today.

I don't know whether this forum is easily offended or I am easily offensive today, gosh.

I, the carioca NSGer, never saw use in the few moments I took classes of Arts, Physical Education and Literature, who would be much more important for me and most people at grades 1-4 than grades 9-12 though often quite the reverse takes place, who could flush away all that complicated effort of mine at meeting minimal standards in the Math, Physics and Chemistry classes I, as all other Brazilians, am forced to have as a high school student, as easily as someone blows a paper pinwheel. I didn't said we shouldn't have classes of it, I just said they shouldn't reprove you if everything else you did at school did met the minimal rate.

Of course I would enjoy them without Hard Science classes to occupy my mind with, though. Without Hard Science classes, Brazilian schools would just be far too easy (I don't remember ever getting a rate below 85 in History, Sociology or Biology without studying before tests and below 97 studying for them, and I studied in one of our hardest public schools after passing a gazette but getting kicked out because high level Hard Science + technical school + sleep problems + family stress + propensity to be a victim of crime in my way was too much for me), so I would enjoy killing my time with even Religion (that doesn't reprovate you) or Spanish that I always end/ed up with a 100 anyway doesn't matter how hard the teachers try at being difficult.
