Good gaming PCs?

Postby Lerodan Chinamerica » Tue Aug 06, 2013 7:28 am

I'm currently in the UK, and I'm looking for a high quality gaming desktop around the 1000 pound mark. Requirements include:
-decent upgradability
-Intel i7 Core
-Windows 8 built-in
-high FPS
-ability to run games at the highest settings
-high RAM
-at least 1TB of disk space

I am flexible on these specs. Does anybody know of a PC fitting of these expectations? I've been looking around and there's just too many damn choices. My top contender at the moment if the Alienware X51, but I have a few reservations.

Build your own. Far cheaper and feels more rewarding.

That's what I've been doing for the past few years. But this time I want to buy a top-quality pre-built one.

To be honest I can't be bothered to go through the whole process of finding all the right parts, building the PC, loading Windows onto it... I've got plenty of cash to spend on a PC right now, and I'd like it pre-built.

Good gaming machines are not bought. They're built.
Venicilian: wow. Jesus hung around with everyone. boys, girls, rich, poor(mostly), sick, healthy, etc. in fact, i bet he even went up to gay people and tried to heal them so they would be straight.

New Kereptica: Since power is changed energy over time, an increase in power would mean, in this case, an increase in energy. As energy is equivalent to mass and the density of the government is static, the volume of the government must increase.

While not recommended by many gamers, it is possible to buy a gaming PC off-the-shelf – there are many firms to name, such as Alienware and eBuyer.

However, you might not want to cut the budget too low otherwise you might not get good value for money.

Definitely avoid Dell because they are slow and more business-orientated.

I personally prefer Windows 7 64-bit and Core i7. Sadly, if you want Windows 7 Ultimate you would have to buy it separately: there's one for about £210 on Amazon. They're no longer sold with PCs and I don't know why because I don't think Windows 8 is quite ready yet.

I'd imagine there was some monopoly or antitrust ruling.

I just purchased a Mac mini with a 2.3GHz quad-core Intel Core i7, 4GB memory, 1TB hard drive, and an Intel HD Graphics 4000 for 800 USD, doesn't come with windows 8 or a monitor, but thanks to a local tax free weekend on computers and school supplies, plus a couples sales one on monitors and one on new computers, I was able to add on a 23' Dell monitor, and Windows 8, for a total of about 1,050 USD, give or take $20.

I know that the OP has already said no to this, BUT... build your own.

If you're in the UK, good custom builders include Overclockers and CyberPowerPC. Anywhere, else dunno.

Alienware aren't too bad, but cost way too much.

In every case, if you want a decent gaming PC, build your own. For the same spec you're spending literally hundreds of pounds less. For the same price, your spec will get (very quickly) to the point where you cannot buy a prebuilt of the same quality. And if you can't be bothered finding the parts, just use Logical Increments. Go down to the price you want to spend, build that. It'll take you all of an hour tops if you've built one before, laziness is no excuse. Hell, you can even pay people to do the assembly for you.

Build it, also i7's are useless for gaming, get a i5 instead
I clearly can't be trusted to have a signature.
