Drugs Are Bad

Postby Warda » Sat Aug 03, 2013 6:28 pm

America and other nations have been engaged in a drug war since the 1800s, although not official beginning until the famous speech by Nixon where he declares war on drugs
(here is the video). This has continued to modern times and is still famous for the 80s campaign by Nancy ReaganJust Say No campaign. The popularity of different drugs has changed from time to time originally from opium to modern designer drugs and abusing prospection drugs. The British Empire gained massive wealth and power from the drug trade, only to have their own citizens to begin using and creating social problems and increasing frequency of crime and poverty. They regulated the sale of opium to improve peoples lives and their nations stability. This however began the illegal production of opium for illegal usage. The cycle of banning drugs and then combating their illegal production still continues to this day and is a controversial social issue for many.

I however think there is only one opinion for the drug problem and that is banning them and combating illegal production. I would like to see a increase in combating producers and rehab clinics or treatment centers. I understand that people are concerned with public spending, but the benefits to society outweigh the finical cost of fighting illegal drugs. Drugs ruin families and lives and cause disruption in society that can only be stopped with their banning.

I feel like making weed illegal while it's still fine to sell tobacco is a ridiculous double standard.

Any drug can be bad, it just depends on the user. Even caffeine can be deadly if you consume enough of it, and some teens will do so or come close to it. Drugs need to be regulated and taxed, not banned. Regulation allows for much more consumer safety as well as a metric assload of tax revenue.

Water is also poisonous when consumed in high quantities. Ban water.

Ban oxygen, too. That's even more poisonous than water.

1. Prohibition. Look what happens when you tell people what they can't put in their bodies.
2. You have no right to tell me if I can smoke marijuana or not. It's MY body, so it's MY choice. Not yours.

What defines what's a harmful drug? Do you support a ban on alcohol? Tobacco?

Also, drugs have been banned and it hasn't stopped shit. You say all this like all drugs are currently legal.

Banning drugs has done... precisely what?

Other than give money that could have been given to legal companies and organisations to criminals, of course.

Huge amounts of money.

Drug lords are some of the richest people on the planet, and they don't pay any taxes on any of that income. Imagine what we could do with a few extra billion dollars in the national treasury.

They also spend quite a sum on buying the loyalty of the rural folk. Hell, Pablo Escobar built soccer stadiums in poor neighborhoods in Colombia.
