My way of thinking? So my belief in secularism, religious (or atheistic) tolerance, etc. are one reason you despise religion?

Who is "we" and why would "we" want to progress scientifically and technologically without religion when "we" have, thus far, progressed despite perceived slights on the part of religion? Moreover, who decides what "we" want?

I do. *nods*

I must ask why people need absolute definitive proof to believe in God. Sometimes there can be no such proof that can be seen yet that doesn't disprove it either.

I am a Papist. A Roman Catholic. I have no problem with the term Papist. But I was not raised Catholic. I read the bible and listened to everyone from the Mormons to the Lutherans. Eventually though my studies of the Bible pointed me to the Catholic Church and Fr. O'Hare who spoke with me, taught me, and ultimately helped me find my way to God and His Holy Church. He showed me why it is called faith and taught me that those who truly believe only need to look to the miracles held as proof.

And I became a Catholic after the famous Murphy Report so I knew the society views but I do not care I challenge you to find any religion that doesn't have some darkness in its history.

Well, I suggest you read The Moral Landscape by Sam Harris, wherein it is argued that there may be something to a science of morality. That being said, one of the main ideas of this book in question is that any two different people/cultures may find themselves in a different location on the moral landscape. Mengele and Jonas Salk would be in two completely different neighborhoods, for example.

That book is completely flawed. Harris's solution to the is-ought distinction is to equivocate on the meaning of ''ought'', meaning that he never actually solved the problem. It has also been demonstrated to be false using modal logic.

Really? His kind of thinking is the reason that I despise extremism. Atheism in and of itself does not contain the proposition "Religion should be eliminated".

We require verifiable evidence, because there is no reason to assume something exists without evidence.

That's only the final step, too. Forming a reasonable hypothesis takes more than that.

Would this mean the universe has no cause? If it has no external cause and isn't self caused.

The causal explanation of the universe is that every state of the universe is caused by a previous state. The universe is nothing but its states, S, and once a causal explanation of S is formed, then by definition, there is a causal explanation of U.

We would be better off without religion, but forcefully removing it is stupid. The world's moving toward atheism and irreligion anyway.

So the universe does ''cause'' itself, however the same part doesn't cause itself, but a different state or ''part'' of the universe causes another, correct?

Every state has a causal explanation due to a previous state.

[...S1-->S2--.S3...]

Any self-causation is strictly metaphorical.

I'm my own faith. Where I live, very few people are bothered about religion, so it never used to factor into my life. My parents never christened me as they said I should be allowed to form my own views when I got older, but I believed in God until I was 8. Then, I learnt about Buddhism, and switched faith, but I was still too young to understand really. Once I reached 13, I really started to think about things, and decided Buddhism was on the right path, but not the perfect one for me. I contemplated, and found my own faith, combing different elements of what I believed in. I'm mocked for it, but I truelly feel happy now.
