Are you here claiming that the current scientific consensus is that the theory of evolution is incompatible with the claim that God exists and guided the direction of evolution?

It is. Evolution is not guided by an intelligence, there is no reason to believe it is.

The great thing about the bible is that when it's incompatible with the observable truth you can just reinterpret it.

This is a inaccurate view of history.

Homo Sapiens survived while Homo Neanderthalensis did not because Neanderthalensis had inferior social skills and shorter childhoods.

How would a shorter childhood do anything to the long term survival of a species? as for the social skills, The lack there of lead to their brains being bashed out bit.

"Hypotheses on the fate of the Neanderthals include a failure or inability to adapt to climate change, competitive exclusion, or genocide by encroaching anatomically modern humans, who arrived in Europe long after Neanderthals had settled there.[2] Neanderthal hybridization with early modern human populations is also considered a viable hypothesis, and there is genetic evidence to support the idea that this occurred to some extent."
wiki so not the most reliable source but good for showing Im not pulling this out of nowhere as genocide is is one of the theories of what happen to them.

Yes really. Try looking at the evidence that has been posted in this thread already.
Better yet an entire thread OP was dedicated to it.

There's the fact that no evidence suggests it is. You should never default to belief.

Exactly, the existence or guidance of God in evolution is unaddressed by the theory of evolution, neither the claim that He does exist and did so intervene, nor the claim that He does not exist or that He did not so intervene. Those who hold to the theory of evolution are therefore free to claim either that God exists and guided evolution or that He does not exist or did not guide evolution, as the theory itself makes no claims contradicting either.
Thus, the proponent of theistic evolution is in no way in violation of the scientific consensus.

I certainly do believe in evolution. Biology has always been one of my favourite subjects, and why I chose to get a degree in it.
But I am a Theistic Evolutionist.

The absence of evidence to suggest divine guidance does contradict the theistic view from the scientific perspective.

Please look up the role of the null hypothesis in science.
