Cider is becoming like that over here too. Originally they were a genteel man's drink, but since the government raised taxes on alcopops, sickly sweet sugary lolly water with a skerrick of alcohol which I hate, many women, especially young women are turning to cider, surprise, surprise, for its palatibility.

I don't think alcopops are even sold here outside some special shops, that's why when people want something sweet and alcoholic they go for cider.

Me too! Do we have a scientist here who could explain this weird phenomenon? If I drink either spirits or mild drinks I usually don't get a hangover, but if I mix the two.... oh god I literally become suicidal the next morning.

Got my first job after an interview where I was on the comedown from speed.

But then it was a part-time job at a garden centre and I was a general dogsbody, so it was hardly the most challenging of ones.

I drink wine to occasions that warrant it (e.g. multi-course meal, date), beer (good beer) to tie one on for fun and scotch to relax by myself. There's nothing quite like a dram, a god book and a quiet night.

I generally avoid low-quality alcohol and any mixed or sugary drinks of any kind.

I don't really like any alcoholic beverages. To me they all taste too bitter and kind of like medicine. I mean forget about the health effects or the possiblity of drunkeness + hangover and just focus on the horrible taste.

I'd take soda, fruit juice, tea, water or coffee over alcoholic drinks any day.

I used to be quite a teetotalist, but one could say that I've done a complete U-turn. Reading my old teetotaller messages really makes me cringe But I guess it was just peer pressure that really drove me into starting drinking, and I don't think it was a bad thing. I would've missed out on so many things if I had remained a teetotaller.

Anyway, my personal favorite alcoholic drink is Gin Long Drink or lonkero, a Finnish mild alcoholic beverage that kinda tastes like grapefruit. Some ciders are nice as well, but over here ciders are considered "women's drinks" so don't drink them too often. Rum cola is a close second, though most people here can't really mix it right.

In the other end of the spectrum are beers (I never understood how anyone could like it, it tastes like liquid bread to me) and all kinds of overly sweet chocolate/cocoa/hazelnut liquors and all cocktails that contain them.
