However you cannot force belief on someone so homosexuality almost needs to be legal.

Just so we're clear - I'm not asking you people why gay marriage should be illegal. I'm asking you if it, in any way, harms anyone. In any capacity.

I was merely refuting his statement where he claimed homosexuals do not believe in god, which is certainly not the case, and then refuting his claim that they are condemned to hell, which is not the case in religions such as Lutheranism, where they are saved by their faith alone.

My strategy with hare-brained questions/arguments like this is to entirely bypass them; after all, what we need is not a government that allows gay marriage, but a populace that doesn't bother to seek said government's say on something as complicated and personal as morality and the individual's sexuality.

The divorce rates are meaningless, as is the number of partners. Marriage has not lost its social and cultural value as of yet, and even in current conditions it serves its purpose: providing a modicum of stability to couples and their children.

If it's a social and cultural institution, why should it have anything to do with the state? I'm not against marriage, but I am against the state recognising marriage and giving any form of privilige to those who are married.

Hospital visitation as in being allowed to visit your family at the hospital. A married person's spouse counts as family and, therefor, is allowed to visit you. Anybody else, however, is not.

You really do live in a primitive country if that's the rule.
Again, that's not actually the case here, so clearly it's not a necessity.

Yeah you should probably read some history and then re-evaluate your "strategy." I mean, I know it's a great idea for people who are already heterosexual white Christian dudes, but for pretty much everyone else it sucks.
