Dog fighting is not (from my knowledge, then again I'm fairly dumb) natural at all.

The only blood sports that should be legal, if you consider them blood sports, are hunting(not staged/canned or internet, just normal hunting), fishing, and bullfighting.

Non-lethal, humane bullfighting is okay. Bloodsport bullfighting is barbaric.

Uh, no. They're overly violent, cruel to the animals involved and not even much entertainment. I mean, why would you choose to watch two dogs biting each other? It's just plain strange.

I was talking of the highly ritualized, traditional variant.

I know S&M enthusiasts who find animal cruelty of this sort revolting, so perhaps there's something more insidious to this.

I'm still against it myself, but I had to describe how rat baiting worked. It was in a time before modern pest control when they did that.

Today rats are used to detect landmines and tuberculosis. They're basically the dogs of the rodent family.

Come back to me when you have facts and not cultural cliches.

Rats are vermin and we would be much better off without them. There is a reason why the word rat is synonymous with scum, worthlessness and treachery.

You came back to me with more cultural cliches. Predictable.

Rats help other rats. They're probably less treacherous than humans.

If you're killing rats because they actually pose a serious threat to your life and those of others, that's one thing, but killing rats because lol they're yucky, or for one's own sick amusement, is a whole different story.

This.^ That means they should be illegal. Animals can't give consent to fight each other to the death. Like how children can't give legal consent.

Not for "higher animals".

If you want to set up duels between, say, insects, which might be semi-sentient at best, be my guest.

Insects would probably be the limit. Other animals are most definitely sentient. Of course chickens and dogs are conscious and can feel pain. Get one of those animals as pets and it will be pretty obvious.

Even so, why the fuck would you set up two(or more) animals to fight to the death for your entertainment?
And I don't think you're in a position to discuss the sentience of animals, nor should sentience ever be a qualifier for cruelty.

Insect/arachnid fighting is somewhat popular in Japan, I hear.
