So what games have you played? I've played many, my favorites were DnD 2nd and 3rd, Shadowrun 3rd, Legend of the Five Rings 1st, Seventh Sea 1st, Classic Battletech and its RP spinoff Mechwarriors, and finally the original White Wolf System. I've grown more fond of the newer Story Teller system as well because of its versatility but the original holds a special place.

ADnD 1e, 2e and Player's Options. MERP. Rolemaster (RMSS and RMFRP). Shadowrun 2e. Cyberpunk. Star Wars (West End). Palladium (Robotech setting). White Wolf system (Vampire, Mage and Changeling).
As for LARPing, just Vampire.

My favourite systems ever are RMFRP, ADnD 2e, and Shadowrun.

Shadowrun has such a great system in my opinion... sure you might end up rolling a fuckton of dice sometimes but its a very simple and robust concept when you learn it and can easily be applied to an ad hoc game.
