Us actually discussing TET is more on-topic than the previous "discussion".

On the subject of TET though: I know NSG (the whole) has a slightly negative opinion on TET (at its present). People claim that it's basically a haven for spam, moderation in there pretty much sucks balls, self-moderation doesn't always work, etc. Why do we hate it so much?

Spam, greeters, and general nastiness like the Horus/Drako incident a little while ago that resulted in a ton of bans. Oh, and spam.
I support peace in Israel and Palestine. The governments and people in power on all sides are an absolute disgrace, and their unwillingness to pursue peace is a disservice to the people they are meant to be serving. The status quo is not simply untenable; it is unquestionably unacceptable.

I don't hate a thread, that's just silly.

I dislike some of the behaviour that goes on there at times. Too infantile, too much drama or too much spam/asterisk RP'ing. It's gotten worse recently.

It's not really post whoring or anything. Some of us do want sincere chats without the spam and the greeters. As I am fairly new here I wouldn't really know the extent of the greet-spam but I just want it to stop. I have to snark my way through just to have a civilized conversation.

Not to mention antics. Oh gawd the antics. some players seem to be broken records when they go on TET. It's ridiculous.

I think it reminds us of F7 which people equate with childhood and immaturity.

I believe, though I don't the policy that TET would be better if everytime there was a debate people wouldn't say

"Gosh another debate, I'm out."
"A debate on NSG? How horrible."
"If you want to debate, start a thread, not on TET."

Though I've always believed (and I could be wrong) that TET lived in two states of chat and debate... we've just been focusing more on the chat side and that has angered many.

Spam, greeters, and general nastiness like the Horus/Drako incident a little while ago that resulted in a ton of bans. Oh, and spam.

Speaking for myself: having posted in TET for the majority of a year (about 10 months?) and seeing it pretty much fall... I have to sadly concur with this conclusion, at least for the present state of it.

In the past, TET posters have been able to discuss things worth discussing (e.g. psychiatric care in terms of depression, social anxiety, and the like), and we'd have small debates and discussions. It wasn't always civil (I do still remember quite a bit of drama, such as the drama that occurred when the bigots did their Chick-fil-a run), but it was decent for a chat thread. I'm pretty sure they still do that, but it seems to have degraded or something somehow. I don't know what exactly it is though that's changed.

Greeters were a problem, yes. I've been a greeter sometimes too, but at some point I just jumped into the conversation and went on with my day responding to people and adding on to the conversation. I actually wasn't aware that people saw it as annoying or as a problem.

General nastiness? Oh yeah. I remember that. It got real nasty in the past before, and ugh. People took their personal issues with other posters who happened to post in TET to the thread and aggravated everyone else. I will not name names.

I don't remember ever having 12-13 pages removed completely from TET when I was there though. I think post removals HAVE happened in the past, but not to that large amount before.

Overall though, there was a sense of community there, and we were all close to one another. Most of the posters had been posting there for over a year (since its incarnation), and I was new, but I was quickly integrated and made welcome into the community. We did off-site stuff together (Skype voice chats, oh gods) -- and some of the best moments started from something off-site.

Then things began to change. Maybe the TET community grew younger, age wise? I don't know. But it's worse.

Well, General is a debate forum. A chat thread would be better suited to F7, really, if there's no debate going on.

My point exactly, TET needs to walk the line of debate and chat... not or.

And the posters must understand this.

Which is weird, because TET posters used to be quite okay with small debates — not as wholescale as NSG as a whole, but small ones.

I've seen some explicitly state it, actually. It was something along the lines of "If I wanted a debate, I'd go to General", despite actually being in General.

Well you know that annoying noise that is set on repeat for ten minutes on Youtube? Some people come into TET. Say something. Makes it their personality quirk. Then repeats it over and over every single dammed time. That is what I call "antics".

But sometimes we want friendly debate on the thread. It can be fun and amusing. It's just that some flip out the moment a small mildly heated debate appears on TET. Now I am guilty for doing this several times by it's chatting too right? And far more civilized than gretspam and the likes.

Exactly.

People must realize there is a healthy balance in everything. Even chat threads. The point of chat is to well, chat. And sometimes there will be small debates but that is part of chatting. Is it not?

Debates too small for their own thread such as when me and CC talk about NASCAR. NASCAR doesn't seem to produce a long lasting thread for example and thus it's prone to sneaking into TET. These debates are more light-hearted in nature in TET than elsewhere.

It's even bizarre the more I think about it. If they're only here for the chatting and not the debate or the gameplay, why are they even here? I'm pretty sure there are better places where you can have a generic chat with strangers on the Internet.

I recall a rather heated discussion about French stereotypes once. I once told off someone in a heated discussion for saying that people with clinical depression should just get over it. The Chick-fil-a thing — I remember people sounding off on whether we should really give a shit.

I don't know when, I don't know where it happened that TET became a 'safe place' from debate and personally I believe that's what has destroyed it inadvertently, in the eyes of many.

It's even bizarre the more I think about it. If they're only here for the chatting and not the debate or the gameplay, why are they even here? I'm pretty sure there are better places where you can have a generic chat with strangers on the Internet.

Well, maybe because they are here for roleplaying too. But really, TET has run for far longer than The Flaming Wombat in both years and incarnations.

I suggest shoving it to the forum that is OOC, but is the Friday Death Slot for TET. Or at least, channel some out onto the Neutral Ground, the Gameplay's equivalent of TET which is underused.
