Debate a lot. *nod*

I'm serious. If you debate a lot, you'll learn how to spot logical fallacies.

I expected nonetheless. >.<

Also, can logical fallacies work the other way around? Because if it can be spitted and render the opponents argument moot, shouldn't the careful implementation of logical fallacies enforce the argument?

Or am I missing the point completely and should go back to a cray house? :p

pretty sure the idea that once you found a logical fallacy in an opponents argument that means it must be false is itself a logical fallacy

its the fallacy fallacy, and it is beautiful. just say it. the fallacy fallacy.

ask moderation about reading serious moderation candidates TGs without telling them about it until afterwards and/or apparently refusing to confirm/deny the exact timeline of TG reading ~~~ i hope you never sent any of the recent mods or the ones that got really close anything personal!

signature edit: confirmation has been received. they will explicitly do it before and without asking. they can look at TGs basically whenever they want so please keep this in mind when nominating people for moderator or TGing good posters/anyone!

Depends if you care about being right or just care about winning.
In my NS politics "career" (Roleplay on the forums) it helped a lot to know how to smuggle in a good fallacy to show that the fenders really were out to get us all, or my opponent was a secret fender so we should ignore everything they say, etc.
You'll also notice a lot of politicians use logical fallacies.
Even ones who should know better (have a philosophy degree.)
make no mistake, when they do this, they are actively trying to mislead the public and con them into voting for them.

There is an out of control trolley speeding towards Jeremy Bentham, who is tied to the track. You can pull the lever to cause the trolley to switch tracks, but on the other track is Immanuel Kant. Bentham is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Critique of Pure Reason. Kant is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Principles of Moral Legislation. Both men are shouting at you that they have recently started to reconsider their ethical stances.

For real, let's not continue the threadjack, we're 163 pages strong, let's keep it up, little diversions are normal, and I'm guilty as well, but let's not get this locked.
